Day 1: Seaplane to "Odyssey"
Today your "Odyssey" adventure begins, your transport will pick you up from your accommodation and take you to Broome Airport. There you will take a scenic seaplane flight to Dugong Bay where "Odyssey" and her crew will be waiting to greet you.
After familiarising yourself with "Odyssey" you will enjoy a scrumptious lunch, served by our chef. It will be all aboard our tender vessel “Homer”, which carries all our guests with ease and features an on board toilet and plenty of shade to keep the hot Kimberley sun at bay. As we visit cascading Turtle Falls, we take time to explore some of the many mangrove systems that are abundant along the Kimberley coast. It’s time now to relax on the alfresco deck and enjoy your first thunder storm.
Day 2: Dugong Bay to Talbot Bay
We will depart Dugong Bay after breakfast and head for Talbot Bay, the location of magnificent Horizontal Falls. Once there, we will take a thrill ride through the falls and experience the awesome power of the tidal surge as it passes through the gaps. We will then cruise to Cyclone Creek & McLarty Ranges exploring the spectacular geological formations that was formed over 2 billion years when the Kimberley block ran into Australia.
Later in the day we will visit Turtle Reef, a unique marine ecosystem that exposes itself on a low tide. Walking on the reef you can get a closer look at the many exposed hard and soft corals. There may be some unsuspecting fish trapped in deep holes in the middle of the reef just waiting for a lure or fresh bait.
Day 3: King Fisher Islands & Raft Point
We take an early morning cruise through collier to the Kingfisher Islands and then further onto Raft Point in Doubtful Bay. Raft Point has an amazing display of Wandjina Art secretly tucked away in the cliffs, the walk is short but steep.
Our naturalist guide will share this area’s history with you. The view back over Steep Island is spectacular. Have your camera ready to capture the view, the storm clouds should be gathering now to add another dimension to the picture. As we head back to "Odyssey", you can try your luck at catching a Tuna or Mackerel.
Day 4: Red Cone Creek and Ruby Falls
We travel through Foam Passage to Red Cone Creek. We will anchor here for lunch, and then head to Ruby Falls. We will stop here for a while for a swim beneath the cascading falls.
After a refreshing swim, it will be the perfect time to drop some pots and catch some mud crabs, or try your hand at the ever elusive Barramundi.
Day 5: Montgomery Reef
We’ll catch the tide early this morning for a trip to Montgomery Reef where “Odyssey” will navigate her way up Turtle Gully.
You will be amazed of the sheer size of Montgomery Reef as it rises out of the ocean on a falling tide only to disappear below sea level again just a few hours later. Keep a camera ready and an eye out for the many species of marine life as turtles, stingrays and fish get trapped in the rushing waters.
Day 6: Sale River
We will spend the day exploring the beautiful Sale River. Here there is a perfect example of one of the 1,400 rainforest pockets dotted throughout the Kimberley coast.
"Homer" will take us upstream as far as possible, winding our way through narrow sandstone gorges to the Sale River rainforest.
We will take a leisurely walk through the rainforest environment where ferns, butterflies and Strangler Figs thrive on the clear running waters that feed two delightful swimming holes nestled together at the top of the creek. The crew of "Odyssey" will guide you as we explore this last true wilderness together.
Day 7: George Water and Walcott Inlet
As we continue we will explore places like Walcott Inlet, George Water and Secure Bay, you may want to relax on the bow of "Odyssey" and observe the abundance of flora and fauna that welcomes the rain of The BIG Wet. See the many different mangrove species that line the river beds and learn how they survive in this harsh environment.
Watch the skies of the Kimberley transform themselves into an electrifying show as the clouds build and begin to rumble. There is always a great photo to snap, you can compare amongst your fellow passengers to see who has the best shot. Always a good idea to have a few cold ones to sink as the show unfolds.
Day 8: Silvergull / Croc Creek
We head southward today to visit Crocodile Creek for a refreshing swim (that’s without the crocs) as the warm days are upon us you will appreciate the cool waters.
Silvergull is another great spot to visit. It is inhabited by two well known Kimberley characters, Phil & Marion, who call this place home. We may be invited to see their place and its uniqueness. Check out their private pool, you may be tempted to have a swim.
Day 9: Dugong Bay to Broome
As our trip comes to an end we are back in Dugong Bay. By now the strangers you met on your first day are now friends that will share memories forever.
We say our farewells and have one last look over the Kimberley as you take a scenic flight back to Broome where your transport will be waiting to take you to your accommodation.
This is only a suggested itinerary. Because the Kimberley region has vast tidal movements we may be unable to venture into all the sights mentioned above, however, there are many more spectacular sights not mentioned all along the Kimberley coast and Odyssey Expedition will endeavour to visit as many fascinating sights as possible.
Seaplane and four wheel drive transfers are included in the cost of your cruise. Luggage must be packed into soft bags and weigh no more than 12kg for each guest.
