Situated in the far north west of Western Australia, the Kimberley offers a year round tropical climate, breathtaking scenery and an unspoiled coastline. A diverse array of flora and fauna inhabit the land and waters, including the infamous salt water crocodile.
From March to June, Odyssey travels between Broome and Wyndham while the waterfalls throughout the Kimberley are pumping from the wet season rains.
The Kimberley is blessed with a rich pioneering and indigenous history, offering visitors the holiday experience of a lifetime. Deep gorges, awe-inspiring water falls, the ideal climate and clear night skies bursting with stars, makes the Kimberley a land to be discovered.
We place a maximum of 20 guests on board our 24 meter custom built expedition vessel "Odyssey" so you can sit back relax in style and comfort while enjoying the breathtaking scenery of Australia’s Kimberley coast. Our experienced crew are passionate about their work and pride themselves on being able to offer you a personalised holiday experience that will last a lifetime.

Excursions, carried out daily and are all optional. Our crew are experienced and will inform you with their knowledge of the Kimberley and guide you safely on all excursions.

Fishing, there is an abundance of fish in the waters of the Kimberley ranging from pelagics to estuarine fish like Barramundi or Mangrove Jack. MV Odyssey is well equipped Shimano fishing equipment or if you prefer bring your own favourite rod and tackle.

On-Board Entertainment, MV Odyssey is equipped with state of the art viewing and surround sound SONOS system, Two large LCD screens will keep you informed and entertained. Our book and DVD library offers a large range of music, movies and documentaries for you to choose from.

Laundry service, MV Odyssey is equipped with a washing machine and dryer. Day 5 and 10 of your cruise are washing days, place your laundry in the laundry bag provided and our hostess will collect it in the morning and have it returned to you clean by the evening.

First aid / Medical, All the crew of Odyssey hold a current senior first aid certificate and will assist you if a medical emergency should arise. As well as a general first aid kit MV Odyssey is also equipped with a Royal Flying Doctors Service (RFDS) Medical Chest; the chest contains a range of pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical items which enables emergency and non emergency treatment to be given. The consultation and support of the Royal Flying Doctors Service is available to Odyssey 24 hours a day via satellite phone.
Example Itineraries
Day 1: Broome9:00 am you will be picked up from your Broome accommodation and transferred to MV Odyssey. Be welcomed with fellow guests and meet your Skipper and crew. While enjoying a cold drink and a light brunch we cruise northward watching the endless stretch of Cable Beach pass by. Cruising into the night passing Cape Leveque and across King Sound. |
Day 2: Buccaneer Archipelago - Horizontal FallsAwake to a Kimberley sunrise as we travel through the Buccaneer Archipelago, consisting of more than 800 islands. |
Day 3: Red Cone Creek – Ruby Falls – Montgomery ReefAt Montgomery Reef we take a cruise in Homer for a closer look at the marine life turtles, dugong, crocodiles and bird life. Water cascades from the reef on a falling tide exposing a privileged glimpse of another world! Journey to Doubtful Bay, passing the scenic Raft Point and Steep Island arriving into Red Cone Creek. We board “Homer” for a leisurely cruise and a refreshing swim at the beautiful Ruby Falls. |
Day 4: Brecknock Harbour - Kuri Bay - Sheep IslandToday we cruise through Camden Sound to Brecknock Harbour & Kuri Bay, the location of Paspaley Pearls remote base in the Kimberley. Over to Camden Harbour and go ashore at Sheep Island to visit the last resting place of Mary Jane Pascoe. Hear the story of the ill-fated settlement of the Camden Harbour Pastoral Association. Cruise past Augustus Island to Hanover Bay for a beach walk and a bonfire before dinner. |
Day 5: Prince Regent River -King Cascades - Cathedral FallsThe incoming tide will carry us deep into the Prince Regent River, prepare to get wet on the bow of Odyssey as we nose into the spectacular Kings Cascade. Hike to the top of the falls for a swim in the large freshwater swimming hole. After lunch, we board Homer to view the thundering Cathedral Falls and have a refreshing dunk on the bow of Homer. Fishing in the afternoon and overnight in the Prince Regent River. |
Day 6: Prince Regent River - Fishing - Camp CreekStill within the Prince Regent River gives you an opportunity for a early morning fish before visiting the freshwater swimming holes at Camp Creek. After spending time cooling off, it’s back to Odyssey to take the outgoing tide of the Prince Regent. Watch the sunset over St George Basin while enjoying your catch for dinner prepared by your chef. |
Day 7: Careening Bay - Bigge IslandEarly morning steam to Careening Bay, where we will go ashore to the Mermaid Boab tree made famous by Philip Parker King in 1820. Leaving Careening Bay, we head to north to Bigge Island. After lunch, go ashore to explore ancient Wandjina art sites. Later on we head to Prudhoe Island and try our luck at fishing. |
Day 8: Swift Bay - Mudge BayMid-morning we board Homer to explore Mudge and Swift Bay, there we observe Wandjina and Bradshaw art sites unique to the Kimberley region. Bradshaw art also know as Gwion Gwion was recorded by Joseph Bradshaw in 1891 and is thought to be at least 17,000, perhaps more than 25,000 years old. Later on, we depart for the Mitchell River for over night anchorage. |
Day 9: Mitchell River - Surveyors PoolAfter breakfast, hop in the tenders and try our luck at fishing and mud crabbing. After lunch, time to enjoy a freshwater swim in Surveyors Pool. While steaming to Vansittart Bay, drink champagne and indulge fresh mud crabs on the bow of Odyssey as we watch a warm Kimberley sunset. |
Day 10: Vansittart BayEarly rise this morning to visit a Bradshaw Art site then a short journey on Homer to the eastern side of Vansittart Bay. Here we go ashore to view the wreckage of the DC3 that crash landed during World War II. Keep your eye out for the diamonds that were supposedly on the plane! Later on enjoy a refreshing swim and anchor overnight at Fresh Water Bay. |
Day 11: Glycosmis Bay - Koolama Bay - King George RiverAfter visiting Glycosmis Falls we depart for Koolama Bay and the King George River. Mid-morning we take a beach walk at Tranquil Bay with a spectacular waterfall at the head of the beach. Then visit Pangali Cove where the passengers and crew camped after the Japanese bombing of the MV Koolama in 1942. In the afternoon we journey through the picturesque river to the powerful King George Falls. |
Day 12: King George FallsIt’s an early hike to the top of King George Falls, at over 80 meters the view from the top of these falls is spectacular to say the least! While taking in the view enjoy a refreshing swim at the top of the falls. Board Homer to discover more swimming holes, bird life and colony of bats in this remarkable area. Departing the King George River to explore the Berkeley River. |
Day 13: Berkeley River - Cambridge GulfAt high water, we cross the sand bar and head upstream of what is a spectacular gorged river with many waterfalls. After Lunch, enjoy a refreshing swim and an opportunity for a spot fishing before departing the Berkeley River and head towards Cambridge Gulf. It's a nonstop journey as we make our way south east towards the Port of Wyndham. |
Day 14: - Wyndham - Cambridge GulfThis day has come all too quickly. Awake as we cruise towards the the Port of Wyndham. After breakfast, it’s time to say goodbye to fellow guests and crew members. A courtesy bus will take you to the Five Rivers lookout on the top of the Bastion Range to view the Cambridge Gulf, then a one hour informative ride to Kununurra. A one way flight between Broome and Kununurra is included in the cost of a 14 day Ultimate Kimberley Expedition |
Day 1: Welcome aboard in WyndhamA courtesy bus will pick up from your Kununurra accommodation approximately 7:30 am for an informative one hour bus ride to the Five Rivers lookout at the top the Bastion Range. Be welcomed with fellow guests and meet your Skipper and crew. While enjoying a cold drink and a light brunch we cruise northward through the Cambridge Gulf towards the Berkeley River.We will anchor at the mouth of the Berkeley for the evening ready for an early morning excursion. |
Day 2: Berkeley RiverAfter an early morning fish, we make our way through the spectacular gorged Berkeley River viewing many waterfalls along the way. After lunch, we visit some waterholes for a refreshing swim. Settle in for a relaxing night in the Berkeley while chef is preparing your catch of the day! |
Day 3: Koolama Bay - King Gorge Falls - Tranquil BayEarly morning steam for Koolama Bay and the King George River. Mid-morning take a leisurely beach walk at Tranquil Bay with a spectacular waterfall at the head of the beach. Then visit Pangali Cove where the passengers and crew camped after the Japanese bombing of the MV Koolama in 1942. Later on, we make our way up the magnificent King George River to the powerful King George Falls for a dunk on the bow of Odyssey. |

You will experience the awesome power of the falls with an exhilarating boat ride through the Horizontal Falls. Then spend some time exploring the spectacular geology and scenery of the Cyclone Creek. We continue through the Buccaneer Archipelago, consisting of more than 800 islands, named by Philip Parker King. We go ashore for a leisurely stroll along Silica Beach. |
Day 14: BroomeThis day has come all too quickly. After an overnight steam south, enjoy your breakfast on onboard Odyssey watching the endless stretch of Cable Beach pass by. We arrive mid-morning into Port of Broome where a courtesy bus will be waiting to take you back to your Broome accommodation. A one way flight between Broome and Kununurra is included in the cost of a 14 day Ultimate Kimberley Expedition |
This is an example itinerary only. All our cruises are individual due to changing tidal movements, prevailing conditions, guest preferences and what is found on any given day.
Whilst we will always visit the most iconic locations in the Kimberley, if you have a specific location you want to visit, please let your skipper know once onboard.
What to Bring?
Pack simply and lightly for your Adventure with Odyssey, in soft bags please for easy storage. In tropical conditions, shorts and lightweight shirts are the most comfortable and loose, long sleeved shirts and long pants in a natural, lightweight fabric (e.g. cotton) offer protection against the sun. Nights are usually cool & a cool breeze will often accompany us. We dress Kimberley Casual for dinner, definitely not formal and shoes are not normally worn on-board.
The following packing list may be helpful:
- Personal toiletries (we supply towels, sunscreen, body wash, insect repellent, tissues & hairdryers)
- Hat
- Bathers, we supply additional towels for excursions.
- Camera equipment, all cabins have 240v outlet for recharging.
- Hard sole shoes that you do not mind getting wet which are secure on your feet, reef walkers or old sneakers are suitable.
- Casual clothing shorts and lightweight shirts are most comfortable and loose, long sleeved shirts and long pants in a natural lightweight fabric (e.g., cotton) offer protection against the sun. (Typically, around 30 - 35 degrees during the day and around 18 degrees at night).
- Light jacket or windbreaker is recommended.
- Water bottle with wide opening for ice
- Small backpack suitable to carry camera equipment and water bottle.
- Prescription drugs or vitamins, each cabin has a personal bar fridge for storing medication.
- Motion sickness preventative
- Binoculars (for bird watching)
- Fishing gear is provided on the vessel, however, keen fisher men & women might want to bring their own lures or they are available for purchase on board Odyssey
