The Role
Our skipper is the key position on board that leads our expeditions through the stunning but challenging waters of the Kimberley region of Western Australia. The skipper possesses deep knowledge of the region’s tides, weather conditions, and local marine wildlife, alongside a strong commitment to safety, environmental sustainability, and excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities
- Navigation & Operation of Vessels:
Safely navigate vessels along the Kimberley coast, ensuring smooth, efficient, and safe operations in a variety of conditions. This includes managing tides, currents, and weather challenges specific to the region. - Safety Management:
Oversee all safety procedures on board, ensuring compliance with marine safety regulations, and conducting safety drills for guests and crew. Lead emergency response actions if needed. - Guest Experience:
Provide exceptional customer service, delivering informative and engaging commentary about the Kimberley region’s natural beauty, history, and wildlife. Ensure guests are comfortable, informed, and feel at ease during their journey. - Crew Leadership:

Required Qualifications
- Current Master <24m or higher and relevant maritime certifications (STCW, First Aid, Marine Radio Operator Certificate, etc.)
- Current MED2 or higher
- In-depth knowledge of the Kimberley region and Rowley Shoals, including their tides, currents, weather patterns, and environmental conditions
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to engage guests and manage a team
- Strong decision-making abilities and the ability to remain calm under pressure
- Ability to work independently and manage the vessel with minimal supervision
- Good organisation, planning and time management skills
- Physical fitness and the ability to perform duties that involve lifting and movement in a marine environment
Desirable Qualifications
- Knowledge of local marine wildlife and the ability to educate guests about the region’s natural history

The Role
Our Engineer is a highly skilled and motivated individual, working on vessels operating in one of Australia’s most unique and remote coastal environments. The Engineer will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operation of our main vessel Odyssey and her tenders, ensuring that all vessels are safe, reliable, and in peak working condition.
The Engineer plays a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations of our maritime services, working closely with the vessel’s crew to provide technical expertise and support for a smooth and safe voyage. A focus on preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and ensuring compliance with maritime regulations is essential in the remote regions we travel.
Key Responsibilities
- Vessel Maintenance & Repairs:
Perform regular maintenance and repairs on engine systems, electrical systems, and mechanical equipment aboard vessels. This includes troubleshooting and diagnosing faults, carrying out repairs, and ensuring all systems are functioning properly before each voyage. - Preventive Maintenance:
Refine and implement a preventive maintenance schedule for all vessels, ensuring critical systems are inspected and serviced regularly to prevent breakdowns. - Engine & Mechanical System Oversight:
Monitor the condition and performance of engines, generators, fuel systems, hydraulic systems, and other mechanical components to ensure efficient operation and compliance with safety standards. - Safety & Compliance:
Ensure that all maintenance activities and repairs comply with industry regulations, safety standards, and environmental requirements. Conduct safety checks on all mechanical equipment and ensure emergency systems are fully operational. - Technical Support for Crew:
Provide technical support to the crew and Skipper, advising on best practices for vessel operation and maintenance. Offer troubleshooting expertise during voyages if technical issues arise. - Emergency Repairs:
Be on standby for emergency support, and be able to quickly assess and provide remote advice to fix issues to minimize downtime. - Inventory & Spare Parts Management:
Oversee the inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment, ensuring essential items are stocked and readily available for quick repairs. Liaise with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely procurement of necessary materials. - Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain detailed records of maintenance work, repairs, and inspections. Provide regular reports on the condition of the vessel’s systems to the Operations Manager or Fleet Manager. Ensure that all documentation meets regulatory and company standards. - Environmental Stewardship:
Ensure all work is conducted with respect for the Kimberley environment, adhering to best practices for waste management and pollution prevention. Support the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
Required Qualifications
- Current Coxswain Grade 1 or Master <24m or higher and relevant maritime certifications (STCW, First Aid, Marine Radio Operator Certificate, etc.)
- Current MED2 or higher
- Proven experience as a Marine Engineer, with hands-on experience in maintaining and repairing marine engines, mechanical systems, and electrical systems on vessels. Previous work in remote coastal regions is preferred
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for mechanical and electrical systems. Familiarity with a wide range of engine types and vessel systems, including outboard motors, large diesel engines and generators, desalination systems, air conditioning and pumps.
- Understanding of maritime safety regulations, including emergency procedures, environmental protection, and operational standards
- Ability to work independently in remote locations with minimal supervision while managing multiple tasks and priorities

- Proven experience as a Chef in high-end restaurants, boutique hotels, resorts, or on live-aboard vessels, preferably in remote or wilderness settings. Experience in creating diverse, high-quality menus with fresh, local ingredients

The Role
Our experienced and passionate Dive Master leads our dive operations at the spectacular Rowley Shoals. They are responsible for ensuring safe, enjoyable, and educational dive experiences for guests while assisting with the operational logistics of dive trips. The Rowley Shoals, known for its vibrant coral reefs, clear waters, and diverse marine life, offers an incredible setting for both seasoned divers and those new to the underwater world.
The Dive Master needs to be comfortable working in a remote, coastal environment, and have a passion for marine conservation, guest engagement, and safety. As part of a small, dedicated crew, they work closely with the Skipper and other staff to provide exceptional service and ensure the highest standards of safety and professionalism on every dive.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading and Supervising Dives:
Lead guided scuba diving experiences for guests, providing expert advice, dive briefings, and support underwater. Ensure that divers are appropriately skilled and prepared for the dive conditions at Rowley Shoals, including currents, depth, and visibility. - Dive Safety & Risk Management:
Ensure the safety of all divers at all times. Conduct thorough safety checks of dive equipment before each dive, supervise pre-dive briefings, monitor divers underwater, and manage emergency situations if necessary. Provide first aid and emergency response when required. - Guest Engagement & Education:
Engage with guests before, during, and after dives, providing informative and engaging commentary about the local marine life, underwater ecosystems, and conservation efforts at the Rowley Shoals. Foster a welcoming environment for divers of all experience levels and make their dive experience memorable. - Dive Briefings & Training:
Provide clear, comprehensive dive briefings to guests, covering safety protocols, dive site conditions, and any relevant information about the dive environment. Assist guests with dive gear fitting, buoyancy control, and other aspects of the dive experience. Occasionally assist in training or guiding novice divers. - Equipment Management & Maintenance:

Required Qualifications
- PADI or SSI Dive Master certification (or equivalent from another recognized agency). Advanced certifications or specialties (e.g., deep diving, wreck diving, first aid/CPR) are highly desirable
- At least 2-3 years of diving experience, with a strong focus on guiding and managing dives for guests with varying skill levels. Experience in remote or remote-area diving (preferably in coral reef environments) is advantageous
- In-depth knowledge of coral reefs, marine species, and underwater ecosystems, particularly in the Rowley Shoals region. An understanding of the local conservation initiatives and how to promote sustainable practices among divers is highly valued
- Current First Aid and CPR certifications (preferably DAN Diving Emergency First Response or equivalent). Ability to respond calmly and effectively to any dive-related emergencies
- The role requires good physical fitness to assist guests in and out of the water, manage dive gear, and handle emergency situations. Ability to work in challenging conditions (including open-water diving in varying weather and sea conditions) is essential
- Excellent communication skills to provide clear and informative briefings and engage with guests in a friendly and professional manner. Must be comfortable leading groups, managing different skill levels, and responding to diverse guest needs
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience working in remote areas, especially in the tourism or dive industry in the Kimberley, Rowley Shoals, or similar locations, is highly desirable
- Basic knowledge of dive equipment maintenance or vessel operations would be beneficial
- A background in hospitality or customer service would be an advantage, particularly if you have experience working in luxury or adventure tourism environments
Working Conditions
- The role will be based in the remote, pristine environment of the Rowley Shoals, located off the coast of Western Australia. Accommodation and food will be provided on board the vessel, and you will be away from the mainland for a week at a time
- The Rowley Shoals offers crystal-clear waters and an incredible array of marine life, but also presents variable sea conditions, including strong currents and rough weather. Adaptability is key to ensuring the safety and enjoyment of divers
- The Dive Master role is only required in October and early November depending on the season length
- Accommodation is provided in Broome whilst the vessel is in Broome
